Beyond Business - It's a Jungle
It is January 2009, a few months following my decision to quit business. It was a tough decision, especially considering that I never saw myself ever being an employee. Things could be worse.
I never knew deciding to leave business could be such a difficult thing. Besides the inner you that refuses to let go, you get some of your clients not taking kindly to this. And you also sort of feel bad for terminating some relationships with your clients. They have been good clients.
Now that I have run out of my funds, and any sources of income, I recently started working as a web developer for a media company. Tough times usually make you realise things you did not know about yourself. Work seem to be going okay, so far. I am not really worried about work.
The biggest challenge following a failed business is getting back on your feet. The consequence of a failed business is bad debt, and a bruised ego. I have long standing commitments that have since gone bad. Getting these back on track will take some doing. Have you ever noticed how people change when things don't particularly go well for you? These are people who do not play any significant role in your life, they just happen to be people you spend time with. Amazing.
2009: no car, no place to live, penniless, bad debts and no friends.
At this point in time, I don't have much plans except getting past all these and finding my feet. My future is made up of many short term plans, beyond which life is an uknown. Quality of life. Many people have sacrificed happiness for wealth. I have made too many sacrifices too. It is not really about happiness versus wealth. I personally believe people should have both. Why not? It is just that people generally sacrifice a lot at a great cost to personal life. Business and careers are good, but life is even better. One should not have to suffer because of the other.
