Translation
My first professional translation project was in 1999 when I had to translate a chapter from the book Dianetics! I was translating English to isiXhosa.
I haven't focused much on professional translation work in the past.
The last quarter of 2009 I attended a course at Wits on Software Localisation. It was an interesting course which focused on what is involved in translating software to different languages. Part of my projects were to translate PidGin, an open source instant messaging client, into Sesotho. I have ony completed about 80% of the translation due to work commitments. I intend completing the translation in January 2010 and have PidGid available in Sesotho.
Through the course, I have been able to get projects from Standard Bank in translating and editing for Sesotho.
I am hoping to do more translation work moving forward. So if it is a combination of English/Sesotho translation you need, drop me an email.
For an idea of how good my Sesotho writing is, take a look at the Basotho section of Nalane. That may just be the only convincing you need.
